The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation identified Plaza Park International Prep Academy and Southern Indiana Career and Technical Center (SICTC) as the choices for a solar field installation based on the buildings’ size, energy usage, and space available on campus. The Plaza solar field produces 560kw DC while the SICTIC solar field produces 870kw DC. In one year, these solar fields produce energy equivalent to the usage for 161 homes, 1.6 million pounds of coal burned, and 519 tons of waste recycled instead of dumped in a landfill.

Evansville Regional Airport’s state-of-the-art solar parking canopy produces 1,338kw DC, making it the second largest solar parking canopy in the U.S. and the largest in the Midwest. It supplies 50 percent of the power used in the airport’s terminal, which is equivalent to 60 homes annually. This solar energy initiative is a creative solution that doubles as a passenger amenity.
